Work to remove illiteracy

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said all the education systems in the country should be brought under a single syllabus to remove discrimination in education systems.

He also said a new education commission will be formed where good aspects of the previous commissions will be incorporated.

The education minister said these while addressing a meeting on primary and mass education at Chittagong Circuit House yesterday.

Primary and Mass Education Secretary Badrul Alam Tarafdar, Primary and Mass Education Department Director General Shimul Kanti Ghosh and Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Ashraf Shamim also spoke at the meeting.

Nahid called upon all to work together for removing illiteracy from the country by 2017 and stopping dropout by 2011.

“The government has come to power giving priority to the education and all people irrespective of party and opinion have to come forward to build a corruption-free education system,” Nahid said.

Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Badiul Alam, Premier University Vice Chancellor Dr Anupam Sen, the daily Prothom Alo Resident Editor Abul Momen and Chittagong Press Club President Abu Sufian were also spoke at the meeting.
